I’ve reviewed the short story (novella) by Annie Prolux that later became the basis for the Academy Award winning drama, Brokeback Mountain. The movie, released in 2006 starring Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger, is still the standard by which all other gay drama adaptations are judged (and many straigt ones, for that matter). You can read the review in my May 27th, 2011 post. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here are a few of my old standby favorites:
If These Walls Could Talk 2
with, among others, Vanessa Redgrave, Sharon Stone and Ellen DeGeneres – 3 stories from what what was then the cutting edge in 2000.
Loving Annabelle
– Catholic school, forbidden teacher student romance – enough said…
Losing Chase
- The incredible Helen Mirren and every bit her equal Kyra Sedgwick, in an intense drama that builds on their employer / nanny relationship to a surprise conclusion.
Desert Hearts
– with Helen Shaver and Patricia Charbonneau – The two disc set of the all time lesbian classic film. This features out-takes of the famous love scene, extended interviews with Shaver and Charbonneau and much more.
