Many movies are based on real world events or people. The adaptations for the screen are often taken from a book that was written first. Most of the time, the movie, for the sake of fitting the main story into a 90 minute block of time, takes great liberties with the book in regard to all of the details but it maintains the original main story line. We always advise that you read the book too!
Movies Based on “Real Life Stories” That I’ve Reviewed:
On February 9th, 2012 I reviewed the book Breaking the Surface
by now retired world class and Olympic diving champion Greg Louganis which he co-authored with well know celebrity biographer Eric Marcus. In my review, I mentioned this excellent 2003 movie based on the book that starred Mario Lopez as Greg.
Milk
the 2008 Academy Award winning major motion picture starring Sean Penn as Harvey Milk. Please see my June 14th, 2011 post for my review.
Midnight in Garden of Good & Evil
an adaptation of the book by the same name by author John Berendt. Check out my June 3rd, 2011 post for my review.
Gia – starring Angelina Jolie as America’s first supermodel, Gia Carangi. Gia lived fast and died hard. The movie may be sensationalized; it may not be. What it is, is absolutely riveting. Please see my September 23rd, 2011 post for my in depth review.
