I read a book this weekend that started off with a bang, literally!
If you’ve been visiting with me for a while you know that gay erotica / gay smut is not really my thing so when I read the very first line of this story I was a bit taken aback. I’d thought I was reading a mystery and felt I’d been led astray. Well, I persevered and, even though there were more graphic gay sex scenes to come / cum, I finished the story.
The book I read was the first book by author G. Jay, Summer Spirit: A Ryan Kinkaid Mystery. It was published for the Kindle this past October. The plot revolves around middle aged gay New Yorker Ryan Kinkaid and his desire to get out of New York for the oppressively hot summer months. An antiques dealer by trade, he wants to go somewhere that’s cooler and out of the city but close enough to lots of antique hunting with a major city nearby. He settles on Portsmouth, New Hampshire, finds a rental house and moves in for 4 months with his best friend Lauren, a museum curator, in tow.
All goes well for the vacationing/working pair for a few weeks; until, that is, Ryan starts seeing a ghost… a very sexy ghost. He and Lauren will learn that the house holds a few secrets and they realize their ghostly friend won’t leave until the mystery is solved.
As if ghosts and a mystery weren’t enough, we also get great detail of a New England area the author obviously knows well and legitimate love interests for gay Ryan (Ty) and straight Lauren (Erik). Do they solve the mystery and free the spirit inhabitant of the house? Will the summer romance last for either pair? You’ll have to read the book to see!
I enjoyed this book but, I’ll be honest, I skimmed quickly through the graphic gay sex scenes that are sprinkled throughout the text. If you like reading that kind of thing, you’ll love reading this. I wouldn’t leave it laying around for your pre-teens to get their hands on though. It’s definitely x-rated.

Shelly, thanks for taking the time to read and review G. Jay’s book.
