How many fans of the hit television show Covert Affairs do we have out there; raise your hands? Fans of the movie Coyote Ugly
? How about one we’ve discussed here before, Imagine Me and You? What do the show and those two movies have in common? It’s actress Piper Perabo, of course!
Now the show does very well in it’s time slot and in reruns. “Coyote Ugly” has a following among Piper Perabo and Maria Bello Fans everywhere. And there’s a large fan club on this site for the lesbian romance movie, “Imagine Me and You”. Did you know though that “Imagine Me and You” is not the first lesbian themed movie Piper Perabo starred in? No, it wasn’t. That honor goes to the 2001 Lions Gate release, Lost and Delirious.
In “Lost and Delirious” Piper plays the rebellious bording school roommate Paulie to beautiful, “from money” Tory (acted by Jessica Pare). Paulie and Tory, a couple, get a new to their school, third roommate, Mary, that they dub “Mouse” (played by ”The O.C.’s” Mischa Barton). Mouses mother died and she’s feeling adrift. The roommates take her in and all is well…until the relationship between Paulie and Tory is discovered with devastating effects for Paulie (Perabo) because Tory dumps her unceremoniously rather than be outed to her parents.
This drama shows Piper Perabo’s acting chops like no other movie she’s done before or since. She shines in her neurosis here as she careens toward a manic state. Mary finds herself, in her own grief over the loss of her mother, the only one standing between Paulie and total breakdown from lost love.
If you haven’t seen this, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen through it, that’s a promise. Oh, I know, some critics have panned it, but I personally feel they’re looking at it from the wrong perspective. They see failed “lesbian” love. They don’t see it for what it is, first love, intense love and teen angst gone horribly awry.
