Whew! Girl, it’s hot in here!
In late November I wrote a post and “exposed” (pun intended…in more ways than one) my interest in photography. I’m by no means a professional photographer, mind you. I can’t even be called a hobbyist in the arena. I just a) love to simply view the art form and b) think that many of life’s event’s – big and small – should be documented digitally or on film and saved for posterity.
Though I enjoy good photography that is focused on places or on objects, people are my favorite subject, by far. A good photographer can capture feeling and emotion in a photo in a way that makes the viewer feel as though he or she is present in the scene.
I ran across a photo portfolio book this past weekend that I hadn’t seen before. I have to tell you, it’s a hot one! It’s, Nothing But the Girl: The Blatant Lesbian Image: A Portfolio and Exploration of Lesbian Erotic Photography, published by Freedom Editions. Shockingly, it’s been out since 1998! Why, oh why have I never run across it before?
This massive volume – 638 pages – is packed full of photographs of lesbians from all walks of life. It’s edited by the well known Susie Bright and Jill Posener. The photos come from renowned lesbian photographers like Morgan Gwenwald, Della Grace, Diana Blok, Tee Corrine, Posener herself, and Honey Lee Cottrell.
Along with commentary by Bright, you get some amazing, beautiful, disturbing and intense pictures. For the most part, the women depicted are in erotic poses or erotic situations. The women in these photos show an incredible array of emotion and feeling. Sometimes it’s so raw, you can almost feel it.
You won’t want to put this book down. In fact, you won’t be able to put this book down. You’ll turn page after page…
