If you’ve checked out the music page of this site, you’ve probably read the blurb where I talked about my love for the NBC hit television show, “The Voice“. As a rule, I stopped watching the teenybopper popularity contest that is American Idol three or four years ago when it was apparent that real talent was losing votes to teenage boys that pre-teen girls with cell phones thought were cute (Sanjaya anyone?). The Voice was a revelation. A show where singers were selected sight unseen, based only on, you guessed it, their voice.
Unlike Idol, which was sanitized of all things gay, there were several artists competing on the voice that were out and proud. One of them who, unbelievably, I’d never heard of prior to seeing the show was the rocking sensation, Vicci Martinez. My opinion, all props to Javier Colon, a talented man to be sure, but she should have been in the final round with him and she should have won. She’s the whole package, singer, musician and a ball of fire style show-woman.
Vicci’s latest album, the self titled Vicci Martinez, is due out in early February. It’s obviously not her first, just her first since the show. I can hardly wait. It would be awesome if Amazon would go ahead and release the MP3 singles or at least some clips so we can get a taste if they have them, hint, hint! Universal? I-Tunes? Anyone?
She’s been performing and recording for several years. She has a beautiful, soulful voice that many will say is similar to that of Sarah McLachlan. She can sing a heartfelt melody or a bluesy lament equally well. You’ll feel all of that in her early work. It’s my hope that this latest album will again release the heart of the rock beast that coach Ce Lo Green was able to pull out of her during her time on The Voice. I think we’ll all be surprised.
A couple of her previous album releases are finally receiving national buyer attention thanks, no doubt to her stint on the show. Check out the 2010 release, Sleep To Dream with its 10 passion filled songs or her 2009 release, From the Outside in
with 12 blazing tracks.
