If you’ve reviewed my music selections on this site and you’ve read what I had to say about the reasons I’ve chosen the music that’s listed, then you know that I’m not into clubbing and the whole gay dance club scene. That, and the gay house party scene, are the domain of young, urban, gay males and that’s okay. Let them have their fun while they’re young and they still can…live and let live.
I was contacted very recently by a quite gorgeous young gay man, Patrick Stevens, who wanted me to review his first published book that’s out for the Amazon Kindle (and other readers). This is Patrick:

Author Patrick Stevens
Patrick’s book is titled, The Spins (Thursday Night). It’s been published by Bubo publishing and, as I said, it’s available for the Amazon Kindle. You don’t need a Kindle to read it. Amazon has made free software available for download onto PCs and other devices to enable anyone to read books published for the Kindle reader.
Here is how Patrick described his book to me:
“The Spins” is, at its core, a love letter to the house parties and club experiences of a gay man’s college and post-college years. The book (and its sequels) centers mainly on Link, a young gay man from New Jersey trying to walk the tightrope between college and adulthood. Link is an attractive but insecure guy whose internal obsession with a personal points system often gets in the way of his external life. One Thursday night, one party, and one series of revelations at a friend’s house will lead Link to reconsider every facet of his life – his friends, his former lovers, and who and what he wants for his future. Link’s best friend Kyle ultimately reveals a five-year secret which forces Link into a life-altering choice. The ephemeral and yet enmeshed relationship between Link and Kyle is the focal point of the novel and ultimately the series. Too much alcohol, crazy trannies, clueless boys, and need I mention sex?
If you go to Amazon, and you read their synopsis of his book, you’ll get even more detail. Did I actually read it myself? No, in all honesty, I haven’t. It’s not my kind of thing but he’s already got a couple of great reviews of the book and I can see that there will be a broad base of appeal for it if the the party culture guys stop partying long enough to read it! I told Patrick he should focus on marketing the book to the over 30 gay male set who just can’t do the party/club scene anymore but who might be inclined to live vicariously through a book for a bit!
My gut feeling is that this book will do well with a little promotion to the LGBT community and their return support. Patrick is promising sequels so I’m sure he wants to see the first one take off. Get this now while he’s still new and you can get it inexpensively. You’ll be supporting a fledgling young gay author and assisting him to write more.

I got a chance to read “The Spins”, and I loved it! Patrick Stevens has a great knack for realistic dialogue, mixing humor into everyday situations, and making his secondary characters come to life. I couldn’t help but fall in love with the character of Kyle.
This isn’t just a “gay book” – there’s a little something here for lots of different readers.
Thank you so much for your input. I appreciate and I’m sure Patrick does too…I know he’s watching!
Forgive the shallowness, but I hope his writing is as attractive as he is! Checking out his book now. Good luck Patrick!
And just why do you think I posted his pic?!
I read this book at your suggestion Shelly… way outside my normal range of fiction, but the writing was really good. Great advice as usual!
That’s awesome! Patrick is very talented. I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.
