Let’s cut to the chase; Frances S. Fuchs Ph.D. has written a great book about maintaining real and honest lesbian love relationships. If you’re in a new relationship, or if you’re struggling a bit in a not so new one, get this book: Working It Out: A Lesbian Relationship Primer.
The primer will walk you and your beloved through such topics as coming out (wish I had read this when I met my first partner – a true closest case until after we broke up), domestic partnerships, gay (lesbian) marriage, and the effects of homophobia both inside the home (back to my first partner) and outside the home. There are great exercises to help you and your significant other develop communication skills and, the all important “fair fighting” (first partner issue again) skills.
I’ve read the book. I loved it. I got a lot out of it. My wife, however, is not a reader. She’s not big on exercises either… If Dr. Fuchs had this made into a sitcom or a movie she would certainly watch it, no lie, but that’s not going to happen. Did the book still have value for me? Absolutely! Better that one of us read it, practice what it preaches and love simply, by example than neither of us read it!
That’s how we keep it real. How do you?
